Keeping the Economy Moving

Industry and local farmers rely on cargo shipped through the Port of Oshawa. Liquid asphalt is brought into the port for road construction. Calcium chloride is used mainly for dust control on gravel roads. Local farmers bring their grain, corn and soybeans to the port for shipment to Quebec and Europe. Potash, shipped from Saskatchewan is used in fertilizers, crop protection and seed products. Road salt is distributed throughout Durham Region. Millscale from Whitby’s Gerdau Long Steel North America, is shipped through the port for export to China. Steel and various project cargo has included both inbound and outbound shipments for General Motors.
