News and Media Releases

The Oshawa Port Authority hosted its third Annual General Meeting today, releasing its 2014 audited financial statements that show major projects including the multi-million dollar rail spur and cargo pad, are generating new business opportunities and jobs for local workers.

“The rail spur just opened and already we’re getting expressions of interest from companies ranging from steel to the energy sector,” said Donna Taylor, President and CEO of the Oshawa Port Authority. “Businesses have been quick to recognize the clear advantages of an intermodal port with rail, road and water access to move cargo.”

In 2014, the Oshawa Port Authority managed approximately $9.4 million in operating and capital expenditures. The new $4.1 million rail spur and East Wharf Consolidation Project, which provides an additional berth for ships, were among the largest capital expenditures.

This past year of growth and expansion at the Port of Oshawa has benefited port workers, resulting in more permanent full-time hours for crews who are handling rising cargo volumes.

“With larger crews working more hours than ever before, it’s a real measure of the port’s success,” said Gary Valcour, Chair of the Oshawa Port Authority. “Meeting the increasing demands of businesses benefits the entire community and supports those direct jobs right here at the port.”

Port Stats
