About the Port

Our Facilities and Benefits

Regional Industries and farmers rely on the cargo shipped through the Port of Oshawa including:

STEEL for building construction

MILLSCALE shipped through the port for export to China

ROAD SALT for winter protection

LIQUID ASPHALT for road construction

POTASH from Saskatchewan for crop fertilization

GRAIN, CORN and SOYBEANS shipped to Europe

CALCIUM CHLORIDE for road dust control

The combination of convenient access to major markets, fast turn-around times, excellent cargo handling facilities and competitive rates makes the Port of Oshawa the logical choice for shippers moving cargo into world trade zones from Central Ontario, and for world traders selling into the mid-continent marketplace.

The Port of Oshawa can accommodate any size or type of vessel entering the Seaway System. This provides shippers with a wide range of cargo handling equipment; from heavy lift cranes to fork lift trucks. The labour force is experienced in handling all types of cargo.

The Port of Oshawa’s stevedoring and terminal services are renowned for high, damage-free productivity. Tailor-made services include:

  • Specialized Storage and Distribution
  • Export Packing
  • Through Rates including Inland Transportation

Storage Space: In September of 2002, a new transit shed was announced, providing total inside storage space of over 6,500 square metres or 70,000 square feet.

The new self-ventilated construction covers 4,645 square metres or 50,000 square feet. Built on a cement base with three drive-through doors, this provides an inside loading area to protect weather sensitive cargo. It is also equipped with three loading docks for dry-van loading. The new shed has the capacity to expand to more than 9,200 square metres or 100,000 square feet.

Highway Proximity: The multi-laned Highway 401, which provides a vital transportation link between Montreal, Toronto and Windsor/Detroit, is within two kilometres of the harbour compound.

Transport Carriers: The many transport carriers servicing the Port offer a complete range of equipment to accommodate any type of cargo. Transportation rates to and from Port of Oshawa are extremely competitive when coupled with our terminal and stevedoring charges.
